Report by Committee appointed to consider and report on the best site for a New Western Market.

The Committee appointed in the beginning

of May by His Excellency the Officer Administering the government to consider and report on the best scheme for providing a site for a New festern Market has held three meetings.

The two schones detailed in the attached Memorandum by the Director of Public Works were laid before the Committee at its first meeting.

Scheme Va. 3 comended itself to the Members of the Committee with the exception of the Acting Harbour Master who objected to it on the ground that the site on the Recle- mation in front of the triangular lot at the set end of inglok Street was not so conveniently situated for a Harbour Office as the site in front of the existing Harbour Office.

the available sites in the vicinity of the Harbour Office and decided to make enquiries as to whether a site on the Reclamation opposite Marine Lots 294 and 232 could be acquired for the Man Western Market.

It was ascertained that a portion of Marine Lot 225 containing 13,031 square feet is about to be put up to public auction almost inmediately.

The Committes met on the 30th. instant to consider the question of this latter site and it was pointed out that there was no time to lay the matter before the Secretary of State for the Colonies and obtain his sanction (if is Excellency the Governor were prepared to support the scheme) to the site in question being curchased at auction.
